Water filtration plants

The United Nations General Assembly through Resolution 64/292 explicitly recognized access to clean drinking water and sanitation as a fundamental human right and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realization of all human rights.

The Resolution calls upon States and international organizations to provide financial resources, help capacity-building and technology transfer to help countries, in particular developing countries, to provide safe, clean, accessible and affordable drinking water and sanitation for all. This right entitles everyone to sufficient water for personal and domestic uses and is to be utilized in a sustainable manner for present and future generations.

Pakistan is one of the top 10 countries with the lowest access to clean water, according to a latest study by Water Aid. And Only 39 per cent of Pakistanis have access to safe drinking water in the country.

In compliance with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6- Clean Water and Sanitation, Zaman Foundation endeavored to bridge the gaps between policy and practical implementation. Furthermore, Zaman Foundation aims to play its role in controlling the waterborne diseases which are spread through drinking of contaminated water. Contaminated water can cause many types of diarrheal diseases, including cholera, and other serious illnesses such as guinea worm disease, typhoid, and dysentery, hepatitis A and E. We believe prevention is better than cure, hence taking immediate actions to provide rural areas with clean drinking water by installing water filtration plants.

6 Water Filtration Plants

Zaman Foundation installed Water Filtration Plants at Islam Nagar, Hajikot, Qaiser Town, Masjid Jamila, KalarPind and Bhanewal/Dasanwal, a total of 6 locations in the outskirts of Lahore in order to provide people in these outward areas with the basic right of access to clean drinking water. These six water filtration plants have been operating since 2016 with its first installation in HajiKot. These filtration plants undergo regular water testing’s to ensure no contamination in the water. We strive to meet the international standards of clean drinking water which is being consumed by 8801 beneficiaries daily. According to our survey, a total of 22,005 liters of water is consumed daily at our water filtration plants.

Zaman Foundation further aspires to provide as many people as possible with clean drinking water and playing its small role of preventing water borne diseases in rural areas and through our awareness programs teaching the community about the side effects of poor sanitation and how it affects the water in the adjacent areas.
