Applications are now open for the Mehjabeen Fellowship, a merit-based grant in memory of Dr. Syeda Mehjabeen Abidi Habib. The fellowship supports Pakistani women conducting primary field research as part of their Master’s or PhD thesis in the following areas:
Research Themes
Human-Ecology
Exploring the relationship between people and priority ecological systems in Pakistan, with a focus on how local communities impact and conserve nature.
Music Heritage
Investigating traditional musical practices in Pakistan, especially those linked to identity, spirituality, and cultural continuity.
Note: Fellowship is not for music performance studies.
Who Can Apply?
- Women enrolled in Master’s or PhD programs at HEC-recognized universities in Pakistan.
- Fields include:
Environment, Ecology, Geography, Sociology, Anthropology, Music.
Applicants from other disciplines (e.g., Economics, Management) may be considered based on the research topic.
- For Music Heritage: Independent researchers with strong commitment may also apply.
- Women enrolled in Master’s or PhD programs at HEC-recognized universities in Pakistan.

Selection Process
